M Richard Goodwin River Mills Fine ArtM. Richard Goodwin has always had a gift for creating Art. Almost as a religious rite of passage, he finished his first oil painting when he was thirteen years old. He was in his early twenties when, while at Northern Illinois University, he purchased a large supply of watercolor paper and began painting. The intense artistic creation experience that followed pulled him toward the medium, and he has pursued it passionately ever since. The detail and brilliant wash achieved when finely crafted paper meets richly ground pigments lends itself to a grand work under the control of a master's touch.

M. Richard Goodwin grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. On weekly excursions, he accompanied his father in and around Chicago, and learned to appreciate the beautiful and intricate architecture of the city's older buildings. As an adult, he has lived in the diverse art cultures of Utah and the intermountain west. He was stimulated by the beauty of the landscape with its vast open spaces, mountains, valleys, and deserts. At this time he continued his fine art and professional development. He frequently was found on the Wasatch front between Phoenix, Salt Lake and southern Idaho creating images from the contours of this western basin; his theater, canvas and pallet.

As a graphic designer many more images would appear of the plains, plateaus and dry parched southwest earth. Then as an Artistic Director he led his professional corps by instruction and guidance to enhance their own creative and developmental process. While Mr. Goodwin's current works are an exploration between architecture and landscape, the evidence of his mid-western roots are enhanced by the freedom created by his westward movement.

Please travel with the artist and participate in the feeling created by the works of M. Richard Goodwin.
